Hello dear IOCA members!
I hope everyone is ready.
Because it's that time of year again.
For the biggest, and best camping event of the season: Fall Lake George!
*What is Fall Lake George?*
WELL, aside from a great excuse to get your mind off homework, it is a
wonderful weekend-long camping trip (on an island!) which around 200 college
students and alumni from the east coast attend. On Friday afternoon,
everyone will be arriving in Bolton Landing, Lake George, NY, where they
will be departing towards Turtle Island. Everyone has the choice of renting
their own canoe to take over to the island, or getting a ride in a
powerboat. When everyone arrives, they set up camp and settle in for the
night. The next day, all different kinds of trips will be going out: hiking,
rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, cliff jumping, and more! People also hang
around on the island and slackline, scuba dive, or zip line! When everyone
is back onto the island that evening, a huge feast is served to all FLG
goers, followed by a traditional square dance. If you have never square
danced before, you don't need any sort of dancing experience, so you
*can't* say
you don't like it until you have tried it!
Fall Lake George is a great opportunity to meet new people, get awesome new
experiences, and everyone is guaranteed to go home with loads of great
stories.
*Where do you go and when?*
Everyone must depart from Veterans Beach in Bolton Landing (same place as
last year and the year before). I have included directions to Veterans Beach
as an attachment. You can also find directions on the FLG website, listed
below. Plan to arrive at Veterans Beach anytime after 2:00 PM on Friday, but
after dark we cannot guarantee that any boats will be able to leave the
beach so the earlier you can arrive, the better.
*Costs (per person):*
General: $35 (for all FLG goers)
Powerboat: $25 (for getting a ride in a powerboat to and from the island)
Canoe Rental: $70 (you may share a canoe with two or three other people and
split the price)
Procrastination: $5 (charged only if you decide to show up and pay the day
of the event)
NOTE: if you DON'T need a means of transportation to the island, i.e. you
have your own boat, the general price is the only price you need to pay.
NOTE ON FOOD: Only RPI students are fed throughout the weekend. Non-RPI
students are only fed the feast on Saturday night, so plan accordingly for
other meals.
NOTE ON ALCOHOL: Don't bring it! Fall Lake George is a DRY event. It really
ends up being more fun this way, so if you are a club leader, please pass
this information on to those who will be attending. Thank you.
*How to pay:*
Once you know how many people from your school will be attending and who
needs canoes or powerboats, please do BOTH things listed below:
1. Send me an email with the name of your school, a list of names of
attendees, which attendees need a canoe, and which need to be taken on the
powerboats.
2. Mail cash or a check (made out to Rensselaer Union) to the following
address along with a piece of paper with the name of your school, your name,
your email, how many attendees from your school, and how many canoes and
powerboat rides you are paying for in the envelope. (It may be easier to
just print out the email you sent me and mail that)

Please, please try to get payments in to me by *Wednesday, September
15th.* Don't
forget, if you decide to show up and pay the day of the event, there will be
a $5 procrastination fee, so I strongly encourage you to pay in advance.
I have included directions to Veterans Beach and a packing list as
attachments.
FLG website: *http://outingclub-alpha.union.rpi.edu/flg_info.php*
(on the website you will find the FLG newsletter, which contains payment
instructions for RPI students, a packing list, a map of the island, how to
lead a trip at FLG, and other details.)
If you have any other questions, feel free to email me!
Get ready IOCA, because camping is in-tents!
