To fellow IOCA members,

Less than three weeks remain before Fall Lake George 2008. Fall Lake George
gathers together About 250 college students and alumni from schools all over
the east coast to Lake George. On Friday afternoon they will have the
option of taking a powerboat or a canoe to Turtle Island which is about two
miles away from the launch site, Veterans Beach (in Bolton Landing). Once on
the island they will setup camp and settle in for the night. On Saturday
morning, all the real fun begins. The Rensselaer Outing Club as well as
other outing clubs will be leading trips of all different types. Rock
climbing, canoeing, kayaking, cliff jumping and hiking are just some of the
things that people will be doing. Transportation to all these activities is
provided. On Saturday evening, once everyone has gotten back to the island,
a huge feast is served, followed by a traditional Square Dance. If you have
never Square Danced you can't say you don't like it until you have tried it.
On Sunday most people sleep in, exchange names and info and then head home.

This year we will be departing from Veterans Beach in Bolton Landing on
Friday September 26. We launched from the same place since 2000 (directions
below). The powerboats and canoes will be available starting at noon on
Friday. You can arrive any time after 2 pm but after dark we cannot
guarantee that any boats will be able to leave the beach so the earlier you
can arrive the better.

With all your help this can be another great year. The cost of FLG is $35
which helps pay for food, generator, gas, truck rental, square dance
callers, island use and other general expenses. If you will be providing
your
own transportation to and from Turtle Island (in other words, you have your
own boat) then this is all you need to pay. If you don't have a boat or
would prefer to take the powerboat to the island then there is an additional
fee of $25.00. As mentioned before you may opt to rent a canoe for the
weekend at a cost of $70 (for the whole canoe, you can get multiple people
in a canoe). Just as an FYI the cost of FLG for you is a bare minimum. The
Rensselaer Outing Club only provides the feast on Saturday Evening so plan
accordingly for other meals.

Payment options: Once you know how many people from your school will be
attending and who needs canoes or power boats please send me an email with
this information. You can then mail a check made out to the Rensselaer
Union or send cash to may address at:

Craig Eaton
66 9th st
Apt 2
Troy, NY 12180

Please include a piece of paper with the name of your school, your name,
your email, how many people are attending, and how many canoes and motor
boat rides you are paying for in the envelope.

Please try as hard as you can to get payments to me by Wednesday September
17th. If you would like to just show up and pay the day of the event there
will be a $5.00 procrastination fee but I strongly encourage you to pay in
advance.

Fall Lake George is a dry event. It really ends up being a lot more fun
this way so I urge all club leaders to pass this information on to those who
will be attending.

Directions to Bolton Island:

>From the south:
Take Rt. 87 (Adirondack Northway) North bound heading towards Saratoga
Springs-Glens Falls area. Get off the Northway (87) at exit 22. The
ramp is approximately 1/4 mile in length and you must be sure to stay
in the left most lane keeping a sharp lookout for route 9N. At the end
of the ramp, take a left and follow route 9N. Stay on 9N for
approximately 11 miles. You will pass through the town of Bolton
Landing. After going through the two traffic lights in town,

you will see the remains of a Dairy Queen. Directly across
the street you will see the entrance to Veterans Memorial Park .

This Park is on the right hand side of route 9N when
heading north and is the launch sight for FLG 2008.
>From the North:
Get on to route 87 south bound and go to exit 22. Take a left off the
exit ramp and follow the directions above.
