Castleton CAN do it if nothing else! Just bring the band and all other activities here and we can hold it!
We have outdoor/indoor rock climbing -hiking - backpacking - skiing - maybe ice up in the notch - water sports - adk's & rumney less than 2 hours away - mt washington 3 to 4 hours away - canada 3hours - long trail/appalachian trail - and plenty of places to zonk out yet IDK about getting a portipoty but id hope we all know LNT...
+ ther is more and it can be done so id stay away from ever canceling it all together...
- get a hold of me asap!!! Let me know what your interested in or ideas throw them if so!
Hope all works out,

So there is a huge issue that has arisen regarding Spring Conference: the
weather at our venue has been the worst in 20 years and the grounds will not
be able to provision for us. I am at an extreme crossroads on what to do
(ie. cancel the event, postpone it, or find a new location - all of which
are progressively, and respectively, more challenging to accomplish). Here
is an excerpt of the email from the owners of the campground to prove the
severity of the issue:
.I must explain. We will not have facilities, yards, roads anything
available when your conference wants to come. The grounds STILL have almost
2 feet of snow covering it all. I have no room for 2 vehicles let alone
10-15. Camping will be impossible because the snow is rotting (what we call
corn snow) but is melting slowly. When you have temperatures of 50 and 60
degrees there, we are having temperatures of upper 30's and low 40's. At
those temperatures, snow melts, but very slowly, consequently why we still
have so much on the ground. When the snow does finally go, we then have
what we call "mud season" because now the frost is coming out of the ground,
making the ground very very soft, squishy and wet. This lasts about 2
weeks, we are now in the middle of May. It looks like we will be hard
pressed to be open by Memorial Day Week-end even. I am sorry, but please do
not plan on coming here for the conference.
I was grateful to come across the campgrounds that we are currently planned
to stay at because I have exhausted all my other options for the area
including the State Campgrounds and private Cabins - the couple that owns
the campgrounds we are planned to stay at have been overly helpful in trying
to not only accommodate our group but have gone out of their way to assist
us in organizing the event when we got up there. So accordingly, though
disappointingly, I know the owners have done everything they can to try an
accommodate us for the April 25-27 date, however after discussion with the
owners it looks like we will not be able to hold spring conference at
chimney mountain at this current location and/or date. Perhaps with this
issue compounding the White Nose Syndrome of bats in NYS caves such as Eagle
Cave on Chimney Mountain, it is, dare I say, good that we cannot hold
Conference at this time. I am in dire need of ideas on what to do at this
point. The unfortunate point is that I have literally little to no time to
find a new location for Conference with such a short time frame.
