What: SOLO Wilderness First Aid
Where: RPI Campus
When: January 26-27, 2006
SOLO is a wilderness first aid course designed for people who spend time
away from immediate help. If you spend anytime in the back-country, or
anywhere where it takes more than an hour to get to a hospital, the
skills you learn in a SOLO course could mean the difference between life
and death. The course being offered at RPI is a 2 day long basic WFA
(Wilderness First Aid) course, which teaches the basics of pre-hospital
care and survival for a wilderness setting, as well as how to avoid
getting into trouble in the first place.
During the course there is some classroom instruction, and a lot of
hands on experience practicing the skills that you learn in the class.
First you'll practice the individual skills that you learned in the
classroom, then head outside for mock scenarios. Also the instructors
are active guides, and rescue personnel,so they have lots of
entertaining stories about what you're learning to help keep everything
in perspective. This course is highly recommended if you are or wish to
become a leader for the club, or just spend time in the back country.
The cost for non-RPI students is $125 and we'll work to provide housing
with other RPI Outing Clubers (think couches).
