RPI is hosting a winter camping in the Adirodack Mtns at the Adirondack
Loj (yes that is how its spelled). The cost of the lean-tos will be
about $20-25 per person. It is also possible to hike into the
wilderness lean-tos to stay for free, but you must keep your group size
to an 8 person max. There is a fee for parking. It will start on the
18th and people can plan to stay as long as they would like. The 20th
or 21st would be the days I expect most people to depart.
Trip out could include:
Hiking the tallest peaks in NY including the tallest Mt. Marcy.
Cross country skiing on most of the trails.
Ice climbing on some of the 'Dacks best ice.
Ice skating on Chapel Pond or Cascade Lake.
The restrictions for the adirondacks are you must have snowshoes or
skiis in the wintertime, 15 people per group for a day hike and 8 people
per group staying at wilderness lean-tos.
If you would like to join us please contact John Lembke lembkj at rpi.edu.
Reservations aren't required but I would like to have an idea of who to
expect. I will send groups that are intersted directions to the Loj.
