Hey folks!
This weekend, Cori and I shall be leading a three-day backpacking trip
in Vermont. The trail is formally called the Glastenbury Loop, but last
year we ran it in the spring, as a snowshoe, and it was dubbed "Mount
Holyoke and the Search for the Holy Trail!" This time, we're running it
before the snow comes down, plan to stay trail-bound and have as much
fun as we did then!
It's a beautiful area. The trail is a 20mi loop, with several mountain
summits along the way. We'll be driving out Friday, and returning on
Sunday. That'll give us one full days, two partial days, and two nights
out in the boonies. We will be looking for help from drivers with
personal vehicles on this excursion (gas will be compensated, of course.)
The requirements for this trip are that, #1, you be confident that you
will be comfortable spending three days outside and exerting. If you've
had little experience in this sort of activity, please contact me or
Cori so we can meet in person and discuss options. There will be a small
trip fee to help pay for gas and food expenses. You should also be
comfortable carrying your own gear, and helping carry the communal gear.
On that note, gear requirements will be (with a * next to items
available through MHOC):
-*Backpack, with sturdy hip belt
-*Non-cotton clothes in layers (plan for chilly weather - it's
November!) with hats, gloves, and a rain layer (parka, etc) Extras,
especially socks!
-Sturdy footwear (hiking boots preferred)
-*Sleeping bag, *sleeping pad
-*Meal kit (bowl, spoon. Cup optional)
-Flashlight/Headlamp
-Capacity to carry plenty of water during travel (two bottles is good,
approx. 64oz/2 full-sized nalgenes)
-Snack food, lunch for Friday
-Toiletries

Recommended gear:
-Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Sun hat. (Think sun protection!)
-First aid kit
-*Compass (especially if you'd like to learn some outdoor navigation, or
refresh your skills)

We will provide tents, stoves, maps (for those interested in knowing
where we are, or in learning some navigation skills,) breakfasts,
dinners, and lunches for the second two nights. As this is a more
involved trip, we will be doing a pre-trip gear check sometime before we
leave campus (possibly the day before.) For safety reasons, the above
essentials are required for participation!

Any further questions or clarifications, do let me know. Otherwise,
contact me or Cori (teshe20c) to sign up! (let us know if you can help
with transportation!)

Cheers!
~Fiona
