Fall IOCA Updates: September 2007
_____________________________________________________________________________
Welcome new and veteran IOCAans!
I hope that you are looking forward to another great year with
Intercollegiate Outing Club Association (IOCA) and with your own
respective Outing Clubs! I am taking this opportunity to welcome you
all to IOCA. For those of who are new to the organization, IOCA helps
to bring Outing Clubs together for various activities throughout the
year, which help clubs to network to do more trips? IOCA leaders can
also with advising clubs how to create budgets to get gear, how to
organize trips, etc. For more information about IOCA please visit
www.ioca.org.
Below are some updates for current IOCA Happenings:
Events Planned for 2007-2008:
Fall Lake George: September 21st to 23rd (RPI)
Winter Fun (?): February/March? (Mount Holyoke College)
Spring Conference: End of April
IOCA Directory:
Please check the IOCA webpage to see if your club?s information is
current. Also, if you are not on the IOCA e-mail list and would like
to be, please add yourself to the list:
http://ioca.org/mailman/listinfo/member_list_ioca.org.
IOCA Handbook:
Nick Pirelli (Bridgewater State College Outdoor Adventure Club) has
been working with a team of fellow IOCAans to update the IOCA handbook
(1955 version: http://www.ioca.org/handbook/OutingClubHandbook.pdf)
Hopefully, a first draft will be ready for comments at Fall Lake George.
IOCA Cookbook:
This is a new idea. IOCA does not have cookbook. Several IOCA
leaders have mention that they would like to have an official IOCA
cookbook. Please feel free to send me your favorite recipes to
info at ioca.org.
IOCA Newsletter:
Also, several IOCA leaders have mentioned that they would like to have
a revival of the IOCA newsletter this year. If you are interested in
organizing this please let me know. Old copies of the Newsletter can
be seen at: http://www.ioca.org/archives/index.php
Networking:
Within the past year IOCA has also begun networking through Facebook
and MySpace to create trips and relay information. If you use these
sites, be sure to join the groups and tell your club members.
If you, your club or friends have an idea for an IOCA trip, big or
small, send me an e-mail (mm_fullmoon at hotmail..com) or any of the
other IOCA trip leaders. We would be happy to help you with some of
the planning to get a trip out. It would be great to get some more
IOCA events out this year! And remember to check www.ioca.org for our
upcoming trips.
I look forward to meeting some of you and your club members at Fall
Lake George the weekend of September 21st. See you there! And best
of luck with your clubs this year!
