1. Winter Fun weekend a great success Thanks MHOC!
The IOCA Winter Fun weekend was hosted this past weekend by Mount Holyoke
Outing Club (MHOC). There were 9 colleges (approximately 40 people) that
participated in the weekend, including MIT, RIT, Brandeis, Harvard,
Wellesley, Nassau, Wesleyan and Mount Holyoke.
Friday began with some rainy/icy weather, but that did not stop IOCA
adventures! On Saturday there were three hikes that went out to the
Holyoke Range in Skinner State Park. No one was lost, which is always
a good sign! A small group went "ice" climbing on Mt. Tom located right
across the Connecticut River. MHC leaders, Kate Walker and Anna Wei, did a
great job with cooking for all the hungry IOCA members, not to mention
baking great brownies. Following dinner we had the chance to see the lunar
eclipse. What a Bonus! The contra dance at MHC's campus center was a huge
success! IOCA was joined by other MHOC members and MHC students. The
excitement did not stop there- on Sunday morning there was relay race that
involved running up a large hill, sledding, building snow people and
somersaulting down the hill. It was a crazy and fun weekend.
Many, many thanks to Michelle Moon and the rest of the MHOC leaders for all
their hard work organizing!! Everyone had a great weekend playing in the
snow!

2. Spring Conference is coming up quick!!
IOCA's annual Spring Conference will happen in just over a month. This year
it is being organized by Brian Sudran and the SUNY New Paltz Outing Club.
The dates have been set as Friday April 13th to Sunday April 15th. It will
be held at SUNY New Paltz's "Ashokan Field Campus" in Olivebridge, NY, right
on the edge of the Catskills. They will be able to accommodate upto about
200 people, so it should be a blast! Start talking it up among your club
members and friends! The link below is to the posting on the IOCA site.
More details will be posted very soon. If you have questions in the mean
time, please contact Brian Sudran at outingclub at newpaltz.edu

6. Summer work opportunities
There are many opportunities out there for those of us interested in the
outdoors to polish our outdoor and leadership skills through summer jobs.
IOCA gets notices of some of these, and while I pass on some like the one
below, this does not indicate endorsement in any way. Please do your own
due diligence on any organization you choose to work for.
Camp Pontiac is a co-ed overnight camp located in New York State in the
foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. They are recruiting staff for the 2007
summer, and are looking for individuals who can teach and assist in their
outdoor adventure program. If you know of anyone who might be interested, or
would like more information about the camp you can view their website at
www.camppontiac.com. For more info, contact Stefanie Friedman at
516-626-7668 or Stefanie at camppontiac.com.
-------------------------------------------
Now get out there and enjoy the last few weeks of winter sports, and get all
your friends to come to Spring Conference in April!!
Cheers,
-Christiaan
