School is just starting, and do you know what that means? Its
time to start thinking about Fall Lake George. That's right, planning
for
the best part of the fall semester is well under way. This year's Fall
Lake George will be held the weekend of September 24-26, 2004. FLG
2004 is
looking to be a great weekend of fun. We already have Paul Rosenburg
(our
favorite square dance caller from FLG 2003, and Spring Conference 2004,
as
well as many other events), to call our Saturday night square dance.
We're
making sure we can stock up on lots of apples and cider for the dance,
steak for dinner, and the ever important Freihofer's cookies.
Incase you're new to IOCA, or are like me and can't remember
what
happened yesterday, never mind last fall, here's what FLG is all
about. 250 college students, 50 canoes, 3 days, 2 powerboats, 1 island,
what more could you ask for. Early Friday morning the RPI outing club
gets
to Bolton landing to start setting up, anytime after noon everyone else
starts arriving. The island is about 2 miles from the dock, you can get
there any way you want. We provide powerboats, and a limited quantity
of
canoes, many people bring canoes, and kayaks. People have even been
know
to try S.C.U.B.A. diving to the island. Friday night, while everyone is
arriving, and setting up camp, is a great chance to get to meet people
from
other schools who share a passion for the outdoors. Saturday is when
the
real fun begins, with tons of fun activities on and around lake
George. Canoeing, kayaking, swimming, sailing (bring you're boats),
swimming, cliff jumping, climbing, hiking, mountain biking, a
Tri--Althalon, relaxing, socializing, eating, and even shopping at the
lake
George outlets (although not a traditional IOCA activity, its a good
reason
to drag you're non-outdoor enthusiast roommate with you). Saturday
night
we have a great steak and chicken dinner (with vegetarian alternatives),
then head over to the square dance for a night of fun with Paul
Rosenburg
and his band. Sunday is the day to sleep in a bit, pack up and head
home.
